Managing Views

As the number of Views increases, administration and management becomes increasingly important. View Management displays all Views in a single place while reducing time and steps required to edit a View or explore its underlying Data Model. This streamlines the View editing process by taking the user directly to the widget.

Accessing View Management

To access View Management, click the View icon in the top-right corner of the Sisense window.

View Management is only accessible if:

  • The logged-in user has the role of Dashboard Designer, Data Designer, Data Admin, or Admin.
  • The PublishView plugin is installed and enabled on the instance.

If these conditions are met, all Views that have been published to the Sisense instance will be displayed on the landing page. The visibility of Views is limited to the logged-in user: Views that they own, or Views that have been shared with them.

Creating Views

Views will continue to be Creating Views.

To create a View from View Management:

  1. Click Create View.
  2. Click Go to Analytics.

Note:

You can always go directly to the Analytics tab. However, if you would like some additional instruction, it is provided in this workflow.

Viewing Details

To open a set of metadata about a specific View, click the View from the table or from the navigation pane on the left.

Field Description Notes
View Name A unique text value that identifies the View. This is the name that end users will see in Infusion Apps, and will reference when writing natural language queries.
View Description A non-unique text value field that describes the contents of the View for end-users. This is the description that end users will see in their Infusion Apps next to the View Name.
Activity The timestamp of when the View Name or View Description was updated.
The email address of the user who made the updates.
NOTE: We cannot currently capture edits to the actual View itself.
Columns & Filters Displays which columns and filters are included in the View and their visible/hidden states. Chips will display different states depending on how the View was Configuring Views.

Access Permissions

Everything shown in the "Access Permissions" section depends on the user's Sisense role and whether they are the owner of the dashboard of the view.

Sys admins, admins, and owners of the source dashboard will always see all the users that have access to the view, which are the users that can access the dashboard of the view.

Non-owners of the source dashboard who are NOT admins will always see only themselves.

Example:

A Designer who is the dashboard owner creates a view and shares it with a data admin.

  • The designer will see both the designer and data admin user emails.
  • A sys admin will see both the designer and data admin user emails.
  • The data admin will only see the data admin user email.

Editing Views

Within View Details, you can make minimal changes to the View.

Name and Description

Hover over and click inside the field to edit the name and description. Click outside of the field to save the new value.

Note:

Changing the name of the View affects all Bookmarks which reference that View.

View Contents

To edit the contents of the View, click the pencil icon.

A new browser tab opens, displaying the Widget Editor in the Analytics tab. In that tab, you can make your changes and republish the View.

To View the source model, click the model icon. A new browser tab opens, displaying the model in the Data tab.

Note:

The icon will only be enabled for users who have the role of Data Designer, Data Admin, or Admin.

Deleting Views

To delete Views directly from the View Details, click the trash icon from the Details window.

Deleting a View from View Management deletes the table or table with aggregation widget from its associated dashboard. It also removes the View from the View list across all Infusion Apps and all users. All Bookmarks referencing that View will no longer work.

Note:

There are no warnings/notifications in the Infusion Apps if a View is deleted or renamed (which will cause users' Bookmarks to no longer work).
